Kyle Lambert

Hard to believe the picture of Rihanna below is actually a digital drawing and not a photograph. Having met Kyle personally and having his work brought to my attention by his friends and not himself speaks volumes. Kyle’s work is done on varying platforms as detailed below each of his pictures, including some truly stunning pieces on an iPad! The Rihanna piece below took 8 hours using a Wacom Intuos 3 tablet with Adobe Photoshop.

Landscapes without Memory

Military madness turns to art in some great images by Joan Fontcuberta, a conceptual artist from Barcelona, Spain. This piece, and others, were created using a computer program called Terragen. The program was originally created for military and scientific uses which turns flat 2D maps into images of three-dimensional terrain.  However, instead of entering map charts into Terragen, the photographer inserts landscapes painted by artists such as Gauguin, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Turner and Constable among others. The software translates them into new virtual landscape that he (yes he, Joan is actually male) calls “post-landscapes”, forming a fault line between the virtual and real, between truth and illusion.

The Wilderness Downtown

Considering the weather at the moment, the title of this Google Chrome experiment seems more than appropriate. This is an experiment developed using HTML5 featuring the song “We Used To Wait”  by Arcade Fire.  Self described as an interactive film and using Google Earth information to link to your hometown, it is a modern fusion of music, video and graphics showing what diversity you can create with HTML5.

Google’s beginners guide to the web

Twenty years ago this month, Tim Berners-Lee published his proposal for the World Wide Web. Twenty years later Google have decided to produce an online book called “20 Things I Learned About The Web”. This informative and entertaining electronic book covers topics as general as “What is the Internet” to more in depth subjects like “Plug-ins”, “IP addresses & DNS” and “Evolving to a Faster Web”. Head on over to take a look at it’s interesting concept of simplistic design fused with easy to understand technical content.

Twitter – out of this world

Here at ADOmedia we often encourage our clients to have a twitter account. There are many benefits to this of which convenience is a major one. Being able to tweet anywhere from almost any platform nowadays is clearly demonstrated here by Douglas H. Wheelock, who goes by the name @Astro_Wheels on Twitter. He photographed fellow astronaut Tracy Caldwell Dyson gazing at the view of Earth from a window in the Cupola on the International Space Station, before she headed home with teammates Sasha and Misha on a Soyuz space craft. Mr Wheelock regularly sends pictures back to Earth via his Twitter account.

Good times

It’s been one of those months for one of ADOmedia’s team! Alex (or “lucky sod”) as he is becoming known has had a coup d’état on Facebook not once, but twice, in two weeks!

Firstly, he won a competition via the Facebook “like” page for Teacups and Fairycakes to receive… yes, you guessed it… 6 cupcakes! They were delivered to his door the other day and they tasted amazing (especially the Black Forest variants pictured)! Thanks Annie. Then secondly, he only went and won another Facebook competition for a free inside and out valet from local car washing company Cheshire Auto Shine! The guys turned up in their van at the car park at work and cleaned the living daylights out of his car. They did a tremendous job and now have a new regular client. To say he is rather smug about this is a bit of an understatement!

Free stuff from Facebook

It is so great to see local businesses using the free resource of Facebook to promote themselves. using competitions and promotions aimed at your “likers” (previously fans) you can really increase your exposure, add to your client base and increase traffic to your web site. So it is a big well done to both businesses. Alex will now also be entering every competition he ever comes across!

Nom Kitchen

Nom Kitchen is a new food blog which we have recently launched for Alex’s fiancée Hannah. As a keen cook Hannah has built up large number of great recipes that she has amassed over the years. The problem was that with so many to remember there were bound to be a few that slipped the memory net and were consigned to history.

Therefore, ADOmedia helped her create this tasty (no pun intended!) little website so that all her yummy recipes could be documented. The site is controlled by a content management system and allows her to easily add and update her posts with ease. The blog is full of simple to make, delicious home cooked recipes with photos to help the less confident chefs out there plus a lot more! Why not have a read and give it a go… go on, you know you really do fancy yourself as the next Ramsay / Lawson!

The vehicle livery

Does your business have a van or other vehicle that is used to transport and deliver your products on a regular basis? If the answer is a yes then you should look into getting your branding and a call to action emblazoned onto it.
How else would you get / afford to have a free billboard roaming your locality clearly displaying your businesses brand and contact details? In short, having a vehicle livery is the most cost effective means of advertising that is available.

Here at ADOmedia we have many years experience in this field. Call us today if you want to find out more about how we can help you get a vehicle livery applied to your van, car or motorbike on 01625 612 198. At the end of the day, like all advertising, only a well thought out application will get you the sales off the back of it. A poor vehicle livery will merely put people off your products or services!

Here is a recent job we have carried out for Vanilla In Allseasons Outside Caterers vehicle livery jobs that ADOmedia have undertaken:

Graphic novel comes to life

Max Oppenheim, a London based photographer, was recently commissioned to create a series of recreations of the terrifying “yearbook photos” found in Charles Burns’ teen-sex-horror graphic novel Black Hole for 125 magazine. Working in conjunction with prosthetics artist Bill Turpin he has created these monstrous shots… we think they are ace! If you haven’t already the graphic novel we suggest you get your hands on it as soon as you can.

ADOmedia V2

It is finally here! Drum roll please…
We decided some time ago that our trusty old website needed a bit of a refresh. Our problem was that we have been so busy helping all of our clients on their projects we kept on having to put back the launch.
The wait, however, is finally over! As you will see we have modernised the site and now have a new showcase area featuring all of our recent work (which we will be adding to frequently).
We have worked closely with Paul Stalburg at PS Imaging to create the various food / drink based photography in and around the site. Thanks Paul, the results look great!

Jingle Bells

Christmas is fast approaching and we are in the process of winding down for our closure for the holidays on the 23rd December 2008. Our offices will re-open again on the 5th January 2009. So if you need any work completing this year then let us know as soon as possible!

Everyone in ADOmedia is busy with projects that we will be able to tell you more about in the new year… watch this space. Last week we completed the first two of a range of four adverts for our good client Collins Performance Engineering. We have done plenty of work for them including their on-line shop as well as a host of printed work. The first two adverts will be seen in the upcoming Fast Ford publication.

Projects on the board that we are working our way through this month include an online locket shop for local jewellers Don Massey, stationery development and website designs for Iron Manpower, corporate identity for a rail engineering recruitment company and a load of other jobs which we can’t mention for the time being as they are hush, hush… sorry!

Jingle Bells

One more thing, another of our clients and trusted partner we work with, Nexus IT Services’ website went live last week. Don’t look anywhere else for all your IT requirements, they are great guys who actually know their stuff.

London

We have been very busy over the past month and a half, hence why there has been little in the way of blogging going on in ADOtowers.

Last Thursday (23rd October) saw us pay a visit down to London to attend the Oakley Design Brief wrap party and awards ceremony. As we have mentioned in the blog (many) before our work we entered had reached the final 14. Unfortunately our moment of glory wasn’t to be with the honours going to “Who Is This Kid?”, a london based designer. Well done to him, his design was really original and in hindsight, the self branding he incorporated hit the nail on the head as far as the brief was concerned. You can see his final, winning design here.

The party was a really stonking night out, free bar and great DJ’s. We had a real laugh, met some new faces and generally had a good time all round. Thanks to Oakley and Daydream Network for putting on such a high quality show! One of the highlights of the night was attempting to get Alex home via taxi across North London as once again he had enjoyed himself too much (there was a free bar)…

Whilst we were in “The Big Smoke” we came across a postcard featuring a ficticiously branded porridge box that was designed by ADOmedia.
It is from a range of advertising that Specsavers had commisioned that was specifically aimed at students. We were appointed to create the prop by Max Oppenheim, a prominent London based photographer who was commissioned for this range of adverts. Have a peak at his website for some of his great work.

Oakley Design Brief

Great news!
ADOmedia are now shortlisted as a highlight entry in the Oakley Design Brief , a competition to find the next design for their Artist Series range of Hijinx sunglasses. From the 60 that were shortlisted we are now in the last 14. We will be going down to the wrap party where the results of the contest will be announced.
